Foster care
Four homes in three years. Her whole life fit in a trash bag.
Maya moved through four different foster homes before she'd had the chance to settle into one. Every move taught her to keep her guard up a little higher — everything she owned fit in a single trash bag, and eventually she stopped asking when she'd go home. The word had stopped meaning anything.
Then Maya met the Jefferson family — and a Nebraska 117 Care Team that showed up with meals, childcare, and support so the family didn't burn out. For the first time, Maya stopped running.

Counseling
Six women asked their church for help. Only one was believed.
This year, six survivors of abuse and coercive control walked into Nebraska 117 Counseling. Each one told the same story: before they ever found a counselor, they had gone to their own church first and asked for help.
